ABOUT

Remde Woodworks is the work of Garrett Remde, sole owner, operator, and maker. Based in a small woodshop in Watsonville, California, Garrett builds every piece start to finish, combining the ever evolving skillset of traditional hand tool woodworking, with modern methods and an open approach to design.

With many of his younger years spent working in construction, Garrett found himself often drawn to the finer details of jobs, and plenty of aspects of general trades that didn’t align with what he enjoyed doing. This led him to go out on his own and eventually land in the fine furniture and custom woodwork space he now operates out of.

Garrett honed his building skills over several years spent living on the Oregon Coast, surrounded by talented builders and developed his skills primarily on his own, through trial and error and a stretch of time spent working at a production furniture shop in Oregon. This, paired with guidance from his father, a talented builder who runs a sawmill in the Santa Cruz mountains. Seeing the process of tree to timber sparked an appreciation at a young age for the materials in their raw form, and the endless possibilities that can come from them. This hands-on approach shaped a philosophy that celebrates the character of the wood, values craftsmanship, and allows the maker’s distinct choices to shine through.

Garrett’s work balances traditional joinery with modern aesthetics. Some pieces are clean and restrained, others bold and exploratory—but every project is rooted in the same principles: create something that is long lasting, let the natural beauty of the materials speak for themselves, and execute the design skillfully.

At Remde Woodworks, every project begins with a conversation. The ideas are free flowing and often begin with a simple sketch. The trust between the client and maker is paramount, and the result is work that is as functional as it is expressive.
